Problem
Difficulty Finding Short-Term Housing
Many of my friends, both local and international, have expressed frustration with finding short-term housing in New York City. For instance, friends visiting from countries like France and Australia faced challenges when they needed temporary accommodations while job-hunting in the city. Hotels were too expensive for extended stays, and they couldn't commit to signing a lease without knowing their long-term plans. Crashing at friends' places became unsustainable, and they struggled to find suitable short-term rentals.
Lack of a Secure and Efficient Subletting Platform
After conducting surveys via social media, performing a competitive analysis, and speaking with friends and family, I identified a significant gap in the market for a dedicated sublet app. Existing platforms are either too generalized, focusing primarily on long-term rentals, or they are not user-friendly enough to manage short-term rentals effectively. This lack of a specialized solution often leads to issues such as miscommunication, lack of transparency, and even potential fraud. Users need a platform that securely and efficiently handles subletting transactions, catering specifically to their short-term rental needs.
Solution
A Dedicated Subletting App
To address the need for secure and efficient short-term housing, I developed a specialized sublet app tailored specifically for users seeking temporary accommodations. During research, users expressed that they are often busy and require a solution that is quick and easy to navigate. To meet this need, I implemented a swiping process—a motion that is familiar to many people in their 20s and 30s—which allows users to quickly browse through available sublets. This intuitive design enables users to efficiently sift through options and immediately connect with the person who posted the sublet. This streamlined approach ensures that users can find suitable accommodations without wasting time, making the entire process seamless and stress-free

Positive Feedback
Users praised the simplicity and security of Sublet Hub, particularly appreciating the quick process and the fun, intuitive swiping feature for browsing listings. The app's bright and direct design allowed them to navigate smoothly without any significant setbacks.
Areas for Improvement
Some users suggested the addition of features such as in-app video tours and more personalized matching based on user preferences, which we are considering for future updates.
Impact
Although Sublet Hub has not yet had a real launch, the overwhelmingly positive feedback suggests that it would likely succeed in the market. The simplicity, user-friendly interface, and secure features resonated well with our target audience. In fact, after completing the project, several friends asked where they could download the app—an encouraging sign that the concept has real potential. In my book, that’s already a success.
